- The Dragon: Smithers is essentially this Mr. Burns, even in the current series.
- Ho Yay: Same as above. At least until Kick the Dog/You Have Outlived Your Usefulness comes into play, leading to:
- Dragon with an Agenda: After both Smithers and Mr. Burns join the Splinter Cell, while working their way up to the top ranks, Smithers becomes this to him, feigning any major devotion to him that he has had in the past.
- The Mole/Hell Face Mole: After Burns' betrayal, Smithers decides to become a dean at Springfield Elementary. However, Smithers is only in it for the purpose of gathering information from the files and records of the Springfield Bound seven, in hopes of winning back Burns' respect. In reality, Smithers is also doing this as a method of using Burns as well.
